Availability of tyres in Australia |
Various emails and comments concerning the availability of tyres to suit the 2CV have been received by the Raid web site. These are shown here for your information. Your input or other comment would be welcomed on this page to help others. Please forward these by email to cheersbastards@hotmail.com |
15.09.2003 - Peter Fosselius ... I rang Michelin Melb, spoke to Sales, which informed me: 125/15 standard tyre for a 2cv is still produced but not in stock. Up to 4 month waiting after a deposit is paid to a dealer anywhere in Australia.- Michelin is aware of the 2cv's and other vintage cars around Australia and will continue supplying as long as the demand is there. 135/15 is not available and will not be sold anymore. 145/15 same story as 125/15... ...As we know from Raid 2000 an old 125/15 tyre is not the best tyre, but a new 125/15 will almost be able to cope, it's time to order new tyres now to get them before the Raid. 12.10.2003 - Andrea Fisher I have recently been looking for the recommended 145/15 Michelin tyres. None seem to be available in Melbourne in any brand let alone Michelins. Are they available interstate or overseas? What is everyone else doing for tyres? regards Ian Sperling Car 23 ------------------------------------- Steve and Anja replied: Hi Ian Thanks for email Tyres may prove to be a problem I personally do not have an answer. With your permission we will post your question into the NEWS section of the raid website, so that all have an opportunity to reply or apply their knowledge. p.s. I am not totally sure that 145 x 15 tyres are necessarily the answer - I personally would probably prefer 135 tyres. regards and cheers steve and anja |

16.10.2003 - Steve Wedell has
done some research and found the following: |
17.10.2003 - David Gries made the following comment that 145 x 15 tyres can be used on 2CV. He personally would use them tubeless and if they get damaged he would probably put a tube into the tyre. |
29.10.2003 - John Katona sent us information that 135 x 15 tyres are available in Australia. Hi guys , well, well, well.Isn't it interesting to read all the comments about the availability of tyres for 2CVs .My experience goes back some months now and it has to do with Mr Bibendum .I placed enquiries with Monsieur Bibendum and depending on the day of the week and the prevalent weather ( in Melbourne that is !! ) I consistently got different answers . Let me elaborate : 125 x 15 no longer available but you can still buy 135 x 15 ( that was on Monday ) . Next enquiry to confirm the first one in order to place an order , 135 x 15 not available anymore but 125 x 15 available soon . As for 145 x 15 , definitely not available any more ( I would tend to believe that answer as only the GS had these tyres , or at least that's what I was told !!! ) 135 x 15 are readily available in Europe ! But what is true is that you can buy 135 x 15 Mabor tyres ( they are just as good as the ones from Monsieur Bibendum !! )right here in good old Melbourne , and how many would you like ? I purchased 4 only 2 weeks ago !! I think that Monsieur Bibendum is not
really interested in us Deux Chevautistes here in good old OZ with sales
of perhaps a couple of hundred tyres a year ( and that includes early
Renaults as well !! ) , you start to understand ( but not appreciate ) the
economics of the world's biggest tyre manufacturer . |
