Vent Modification

Ralph Hibble our Perth committee man has forwarded to us these pictures of a 2CV which has had a fresh air vent fitted.
Some Raiders have modified their cars by fitting a ventflap from an old Landcruiser which gives excellent foot ventilation.
The flap is easily closed from inside the car.

 

Dinges
Busy Dutch lady Sabine Mesli with her car "Sandy'". 
This is car no. 16.
She has prepared her 2CV as a 4X4 and it has been tested at a Belgium "off the road" rally. Sabine says this was a lot of fun and very muddy as well. "We filmed for a Dutch television show and made some good money."

 

Keith Shead - Doing it Properly

In March we received the following article from Keith Shead who describes himself as a "Virgin Raider"

Modified to P.O.
Purchased car from private seller on South Coast of NSW Australia August 1999 with the purpose of entering Raid 2000.

Upon closer inspection of car and learning more about the possible modification one could do, decided to do the lot. I had discussions with Steve HiII in U.K. and he agreed to purchase a new chassis, purchase an old 2CV, modify the new chassis for Raid travel, remove bits from old 2CV, fit old bits to new chassis to produce rolling chassis including new wheel tyres (6 off), new shocks, king pins, bearing etc etc etc, crate and ship to Australia.

While Steve was doing his bit we in Australia were working on the engine, paint, rust removal (fitted 2 new floor pans and beaver section) sorting electrical etc, etc.
Today 21-3-2000 the car is about 3 weeks away from its first road test and we expect it to be well worth the time, pain and money.
I'm a car nut and currently own a 2 Cylinder (2CV), a 4 Cylinder Supercharged Mercedes, a V8 Jeep and a V8 Lamborghini Jalpa. The 2CV is a totally new experience and I'm loving every moment of the preparation and looking forward to the Raid so much so that I've registered to start from Perth, driving the 2CV from Wollongong - Perth - Alice Springs - Cairns - The Cape - Cairns - Brisbane Sydney and Wollongong.
